Lake Lanier, Georgia is the most popular lake in the state. It is also the supplier of water for the city of Atlanta. With the drought the last couple of years, the lake has been near record low levels. It started off this year at 17 feet under normal pool. So much rain has fallen this year in Georgia, the lake is now 1/2 foot OVER pool and rising. It has been an amazing turnaround. Until today, all of this rain has come with out a tropical system. Today's rain is from Ida.
Verkhoyansk, Russia is one of the coldest cities in the world. This sculpture proclaiming the city the "Cold Pole" welcomes you as you enter.
The current temperature is -41 and they have had temperatures like this for the last several days with highs running about -20.
This cold air is bottled up over Siberia for now but if it crosses the pole, there is potential for it to drop south toward the lower 48. The European model is calling for troughing in the central and east by mid-December and if it pulls in some of that cold you cold easily see lows in the teens and maybe single digits if we get some snow.

the gfs has handled ida's precip field rather well..better than the nhc imo. the nam was horrid. i beleive the nhc bought into the ecmwf for guidance

Bring on the exchange of cold at the poles into our hemisphere. I'm banking on it.
