The earth is currently at aphelion with the sun. It's about 3 million miles further away from the sun than it is in January. The sun currently appears to be about 3% smaller than in January. This has little effect on the seasons as that is due more to the tilt of the earth. If the earth was closest in July, our summer temperatures would probably average 2 to 3 degrees hotter than they do now.

Rain is moving southeast out of the St. Louis area. Most of this should dry up tonight. Our main chance is still later in the afternoon and evening tomorrow. The NAM puts out 1/2 to 3/4 inch this weekend and the GFS 1/4 to 1/2 inch so the models are not calling this a major event. The SPC has the slight risk for severe covering western and central KY all the way to interstate 75 for tomorrow. If storms do develop, then rainfall amounts will be higher.

Whats your thoughts on the severe weather chances? I think just about everyone has outside plans tomorrow. Anything major we should worry about here in the metro?
